Avinash Chitale, popularly known as Chiman, has recently left us for his heavenly abode. He was a generous person, a very good friend, and a freely available partner to experts as well as to novice and general players.
Most of us know him as a director. However, he was also a brilliant player with an extremely sharp card sense and deep analytical skills.
After the late directors, Dr Bhat, and Commander Ogle, he took on the mantle of tournament direction, never a popular role, but one which he performed with tremendous dedication and a decidedly unbiased attitude towards ruling on all issues that were brought to his attention.
Notwithstanding the ups and downs in his family fortunes and personal life, he remained a strong supporter to the cause of bridge in general and Pune bridge in particular. He actively helped in the organization of many large scale events conducted by PRBA and MBA in the past.
To honor him, PRBA is dedicating this year's annual event to his memory.
This will be a Swiss Teams Event, conducted on 24th and 25th August, 2024 at Deccan Club, Hirabag.
We invite all of you to play in large numbers in tribute to his memory.
Prizes will be in excess of Rs. 1.50 lakhs
The event will be played in the following format
- 1. On 24th August, all contestants will play 5 rounds (of 8 boards each) out of the 6 rounds of the Swiss League
- On the 25th of August, after the 6th round of the Swiss League, the top 6 participants teams will participate in a super league comprising of 5 rounds of 8 boards each
- The remaining teams will be divided into groups of four. Each group will play a round robin (3 rounds) of 12 boards each.
- The prize distribution will be held around 5 pm
In addition to the prizes for the qualifiers, there will also be prizes for various groups. The number of groups and the amount of prizes will be determined based on the number of entries.
While we will accept entries at the venue, in order to help us make arrangements for seating, catering etc., we request you to register online.

Those who have a pair but due to their shy nature or otherwise, are unable to so far form a team for this weekend's Mega tournament in Pune, despair not.
PRBA cares for all bridge lovers. In that spirit, they will keep a partnership desk at the venue from 30-45 minutes before the tournament. A very well networked Pune veteran has agreed to man that counter.
