Pramod Joshi Memorial Tournament

Pramod Joshi was a towering figure in Pune’s bridge community, a man who seemed to shuffle life itself into a perfect deal. A relentless competitor, he graced every major national tournament with his brilliance, while remaining a cornerstone of local and state events. As a stalwart of the Maharashtra Bridge Association, he wore many hats—vice president, tournament director, and organizer—earning a reputation for dependability, precision, and a clockwork-like punctuality.

An encyclopedia of tournament formats, scoring methods, and rules, Pramod had the uncanny ability to make the complex seem effortless. His sharp tongue and occasional flashes of temper were tempered by his generosity and readiness to help anyone in need. He was a passionate teacher, dedicating countless hours to introducing new players—particularly the ladies at PYC Gymkhana—to the intricacies of bridge, with a flair that left his lessons unforgettable.

To honor him, PRBA is dedicating this year's annual event to his memory.

On Friday, 26th September, there will be an IMP Pairs Event at Deccan Club, Hirabag.

There will also be a Swiss Teams Event, conducted on 27th and 28th September at the same venue.

We invite all of you to play in large numbers in tribute to his memory.

Prizes will be around Rs. 2.00 lakhs. The exact amount depends on the number of participating teams.

The event will be played in the following format

1. On 27th September, all contestants will play 5 rounds (of 8 boards each) out of the 6 rounds of the Swiss League
2. On the 28th of September, after the 6th round of the Swiss League, the top 6 participants teams will participate in a super league comprising of 5 rounds of 8 boards each
3. The remaining teams will be divided into groups of four. Each group will play a round robin (3 rounds) of 12 boards each.
4. The prize distribution will be held around 5 pm
5. Important : In order to be eligible for Master Points, all members of a team have to be registered with BFI.
6. Important : Any team playing with a player not registered with BFI is automatically ineligible to qualify for the Inter State Selection trials.

While we will accept entries at the venue, in order to help us make arrangements for seating, catering etc., we request you to register online.
